Brianna Garcia

Picture of graduate student Brianna GarciaBrianna graduated with a B.S. in chemistry, focus in biochemistry, from California State Polytechnic University Pomona in 2017. Brianna started graduate school in the chemistry program at UGA in Fall of 2017 and joined Dr. Amster's lab. Brianna is co-advised by Dr.  Arthur Edison in the CCRC. Her research focuses on unknown compound identification & method development in untargeted metabolomics using model organism C. elegans and mass spectrometry. Outside of the lab she serves as vice-president of the CGSO club and is part of the Glycoscience Training Program (GTP). She loves the beach, 4 wheelers, jet-sking and CrossFit.

Jandi Kim

Grad Student Jandi KimJandi graduated with a master’s degree in chemistry from Changwon National University in 2015. She was also able to develop a deep understanding of chemistry not only in the spectrometry field, but also spectroscopy study, due to recieving both a bachelors of science and engineering. Jandi started graduate school in the chemistry program at UGA in Fall 2018 and joined Dr. Amster’s research group soon after. Her research focuses on developing new ion activation methods for GAG analysis. She likes to spend her free time traveling the world, hanging out with friends and doing pilates. Jandi is a foodie so she wants to visit different places and eat different foods!

Elijah Roberts

grad student Eli

Elijah Graduated with a B.S. in chemistry with a focus in materials science from James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA) in 2017. Elijah started graduate school in the chemistry program at UGA in the Fall of 2019 and joined Dr. Amster’s shortly after. In his free time, Elijah enjoys hiking, unicycling, cooking, and petting dogs.

Rob Williams

Picture of graduate student Rob Williams Rob received his B.A. in biochemistry from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2012.  After a brief stint working as a Quality Control Scientist in the pharmaceutical industry, he joined the Ph.D. program in chemistry at UGA in 2016. Rob is co-advised by Dr. James Prestegard. His research involves developing hybrid methodology for structural biology of glycoproteins combining NMR spectroscopy and Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry.  In his free time, Rob enjoys video games, good books, and craft beer.

Yiqing Zhang

Grad Student Yiqing Zhang

Yiqing (Iching) graduated with a B.S. degree in material chemistry from Ludong University in 2015. He then went to Chicago for a chemistry master's program. Yiqing graduated with a M.S. in chemistry from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2018. He joined the Ph.D. program at UGA in Fall 2018 and joined Dr. Amster’s research group. His research focuses on the development of a CE-MS/MS platform that combines the separation power of capillary electrophoresis with the analytical power of the Orbitrap mass spectrometer to simplify the study of complex biological mixtures of GAGs/ polysaccharides and their interactions with proteins. Outside of the lab, he likes to read National Geographic and is a history & geology lover.
