Students and instructors fly as a group from Atlanta to Punta Raisi Airport, Sicily. Students live in a small hotel in shared occupancy rooms in the town of Campofelice di Roccella, located a few kilometers from Himera. All weekday meals are provided in designated restaurants and at the site. Weekend trips to archaeological sites, points of interest, and museums on Sicily are offered (additional charges may apply for optional trips).
At the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, students live in university dormitories. Lodging and all weekday meals in UGA dorms are provided by the program. At UGA, students participate in professional development seminars, workshops, and social activities with other REU participants. Time at UGA chiefly is devoted to independent research in laboratories, with support from research mentors. The program culminates with a poster session, where students present their research to an audience.
