Our Staff

Lab Director: Janet Frick, PhD.


Dr. Frick has been a member of the faculty at UGA since 1997. She grew up in Missouri and received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Kansas. She has been intrigued with babies and how they learn for as long as she can remember, and feels very lucky that she gets to study them (and teach students about them) for a living! She and her husband Steve have two children, Colin (age 15) and Melanie (age 12) as well as a collection of cats. In her spare time, Dr. Frick enjoys photography, hiking, playing piano, and singing in her church choir.

Graduate Assistant: Quinn Tracy

Quinn manages day-to-day operations of the lab. He is currently running a study on infant memory, trying to understand what visual information young infants can and cannot remember.

Undergraduate Assistants:

Abby Thomas


Abby Thomas is a 4th year undergraduate student from Braselton, Ga. She is majoring in Psychology and Biology with a Neuroscience emphasis, and plans to attend medical school to become a pediatric surgeon. She is currently collaborating with Dr. Renzi-Hammond and two other undergraduate students to study the effects of oxidative stress on macular pigment density. Abby has been a member of the Infant Lab since her sophomore year at UGA, and plans to use her undergraduate research experience to conduct research during her time in medical school. 

Christine Kaba


Christine is a fourth year (senior) Biology and Psychology double major with Spanish minor. She is applying to medical schools and plans on doing a pediatric specialty in whichever field she chooses. She is currently working on a nutrition project that combines the Department of Psychology's Infant Lab and the College of Public Health to look for oxidative stress and inflammation markers in the blood samples of patients supplemented with carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin. This is considered a lifetime study with similar variables measured in infants and then later in life in 18-32 year olds! A fun fact about Christine is that she has gone dog sledding in Iceland and has ridden camels in Dubai! 

Suzanne Turry


Suzanne is a 3rd year undergraduate student from Marietta, Georgia double majoring in Psychology and Spanish. She aspires to attend Physician’s Assistant school and eventually become a PA in the field of neurology. In the Infant Lab, Suzanne is responsible for website design and social media management, but also regularly assists with the day-to-day operations. One of Suzanne's favorite things to do in Athens is going to see live bands perform at Hendershots! A fun fact about Suzanne is that she has traveled to over 10 countries, including China, Turkey, and Greece!

Neha Mandangarli


Neha is a 4th year honors student from Lawrenceville, GA. Majoring in Psychology and Biology with a minor in Spanish, Neha aspires to attend medical school and become a neurologist in the future. In the UGA Infant Lab, Neha is currently working on a CURO project which she hopes to present at the CURO Spring 2018 Symposium. A fun fact about Neha is that she studied abroad in Peru where she got bit by a poisonous spider!

Summer Roberson

Summer is a 3rd year undergraduate from Waycross, Georgia double majoring in Biology and Psychology with an African Languages and Literature minor. She aspires to attend medical school and eventually become a Pediatrician. In the Infant Lab, Summer is responsible for coding videos and other day-to-day tasks within the lab. A fun fact about Summer is that she speaks Swahili, and has traveled to Africa twice.

Annie Stewart


Annie is a 3rd year Psychology student with a minor in Biology intending to graduate in the Fall of 2018. Annie’s interests include oncology, pediatrics, and trauma. Upon graduating, she aspires to enter graduate school with the intent of pursuing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. In the lab, she assists with everyday operations and analysis such as coding for various projects. In her free time Annie enjoys anything outdoors, reading, baking, and hanging out at coffee shops. A fun fact about Annie is that she has been scuba diving for over 7 years!

Chika Motanya


Chika is a 2nd year undergraduate student from Atlanta, Georgia majoring in Psychology with a minor in Public Health. She aspires to attend Medical School and eventually become a pediatrician. In the Infant Lab, Chika is mainly responsible for coding videos and scheduling appointments. In her free time, Chika enjoys watching Netflix and her favorite show right now is Law and Order SVU. A fun fact about Chika is that she ran track in high school!

Hannah Hingtgen


Hannah Hingtgen is a 1st year undergraduate student from Nashville, TN. She is majoring in Biology and hopes to attend medical school to become a pediatrician and neonatologist. In the lab, Hannah is responsible for day-to-day operations such as coding videos and scheduling appointments. A fun fact about Hannah is that she has lived in 5 different states!

Cliff Jackson


Cliff is a 3rd year undergraduate student from Macon, Georgia majoring in Psychology with a Human Development and Family Sciences minor. Cliff aspires to attend graduate school in hopes of pursuing a career as a mental health counselor. In the Infant Lab, Cliff is responsible for coding videos, as well as scheduling appointments. When not in the lab, Cliff enjoys rollerblading around Athens and his favorite restaurant in the Athens area is Bretts Casual American!
