The Georgia Workshop on Culture, Power, and History began in 2002 under the direction of Dr. David Smilde (now of Tulane University). David (initially in collaboration with Dr. Thomas Beamish and later on with several graduate students) was responsible for the organization of the workshop through the spring of 2014. In our most recent workshop year (2015-2016) we organized a series on Latin American Sustainable Agriculture, co-organized with the Latin American Sustainable Agriculture Initiative hosted at LACSI, the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute. In 2014-2015, our series focused on “Situated meanings of the environment.” Invited participants included Shannon Bell (University of Kentucky), Jill Harrison (University of Colorado-Boulder), and Ron Eyerman (Yale University).
