Welcome to the Community Mapping Lab!

We are a collaborative group of students and faculty focused on analyzing spatial data in ways that empower communities, shape understanding of important issues, and have an impact on public policy. We do so by engaging in collaborative research with groups outside the university and creating public conversations on emerging techniques and trends in cartography and spatial analysis. The lab is housed within the Department of Geography at the University of Georgia. We also have ties to the Housing and Demographic Research Center and the Center for Community Design & Preservation at UGA.

NEW: See this recent talk by Dr. Shannon, the lab director, on the mission of the lab and recent collaborations (lecture slides here):

We welcome inquiries from groups interested in researching and mapping their communities. We also are seeking potential graduate students interested in community engaged research and GIS. Contact Dr. Jerry Shannon for more information.
